Stop Making Your Customers Work So Hard

When someone needs a plumber, electrician, or HVAC company, they usually aren't browsing websites for fun. They have a problem they want fixed.

‍

Perhaps the AC stopped working, there's water pooling under the kitchen sink, or an outlet isn't working. Whatever it is, they're looking for a company they can trust and a quick way to get help.

‍

Your website should make that easy.

‍

Make Your Website Easy to Navigate

‍

Home service websites don't need to be complicated. Customers should be able to quickly find the services you offer, the areas you serve, information about your company, reviews, and a way to contact you.

‍

Think about what someone would need to know before hiring you. Then make those answers easy to find. If a customer must click through six pages to figure out whether you service their area, they're probably going somewhere else.

‍

Give Customers a Clear Next Step

‍

A customer shouldn't have to figure out what you want them to do. If you want them to call, make your phone number easy to find. If you offer online booking, give it a prominent button. If they can request a quote through a form, make that option obvious.

‍

Calls to action such as Call Now, Schedule Service, or Request a Quote tell visitors exactly what happens next.

‍

And don't hide those buttons at the bottom of the page. Put them where customers can see them. Put them where customers can see them as they're looking through your site. A phone number in the header, a "Schedule Service" button near the top of the homepage, and a clear CTA after important service information can make a big difference.

On mobile, consider a persistent call or booking button so customers don't have to scroll back to the top when they're ready to reach out.

‍

Make It Easy on Mobile

‍

Speaking of mobile, a lot of your customers are probably finding you from their phones. Your website needs to work just as well on a small screen as it does on a desktop.

‍

That means readable text, buttons that are easy to tap, forms that aren't a pain to fill out, and a phone number that can actually be called with one tap.

‍

Let's face it; nobody wants to pinch, zoom, scroll, and hunt around while standing next to a leaking water heater!

‍

Make the Next Step Obvious

‍

Take a few minutes to look at your website like a first-time customer. Can you immediately tell what your company does? Can you find the service you need? Do you know what the phone number is? If the answer isn't an easy yes, there's probably some work to do.
