QR codes may have started as a trend, then fell out of favor, but since the pandemic, they’ve made a comeback & proven they’re here to stay. For trades and home service companies, they’re more than just a convenience; they’re a simple way to turn real-world interactions into booked jobs.

The key to making them a part of your marketing campaigns is to use them with intention. Keep reading to see how to make QR codes work for your brand!

Put Them Where Action Happens

Scannable QR codes don’t work if they’re hidden or feel like an afterthought. They need to show up where your customers already are.

A well-placed code turns a passing glance into a next step. Think truck wraps, yard signs, invoices, and even service stickers for the water heater or electrical panel. These are moments when a homeowner is already thinking about their home, and possibly their next project.

Give People a Reason to Scan

No one scans a QR code just because it exists. There must be a clear benefit. “Scan for $25 off your next service” works. “Scan to book instantly” works. “Scan to see before-and-after projects” works. "Scan to leave a review" works.

“Scan me”? Not so much. We recommend being specific – if people question where the QR code will land, they won’t scan it (there’s too many scams out there). Make the value obvious in a few words and build on their trust.

Send Them Somewhere Useful

This is where a lot of businesses unintentionally drop the ball. If your code leads to your homepage, you’re making people work too hard. Instead, send them to a dedicated landing page with one goal: book, call, claim an offer, or leave a review. Keep it simple, mobile-friendly, and fast.

If it takes more than a few seconds to figure out what to do next, you’ve lost them!

Use QR Codes to Build Reviews

Testimonials are everything in home services, and QR codes make it easier to ask for them.

Add a code to your invoice or leave-behind card that links directly to your Google review page. After a successful job, you can say, “If you don’t mind, you can scan this to leave us a quick review.”

Track What’s Actually Working

One of the biggest advantages of QR codes is tracking. You can see how many people scanned, when they did it, and what actions they took next.

Use different codes for different placements, trucks, mailers, invoices, so you know what’s pulling its weight. Then double down on what works.

Put QR Codes to Work

QR codes aren’t magic. They’re a tool. The businesses that see results are the ones that use them consistently, not just once and done.

We tell our clients to treat them like any other part of your marketing. Test, adjust, and keep them visible.

If you’re ready to turn everyday touchpoints into real leads, My Marketing Works can help you build QR campaigns that convert. From design to tracking, we’ll make sure every scan has a purpose—and a payoff.
